What is an Unregistered NDIS Provider?

An Unregistered Provider is an individual or business (with an ABN/ACN) that provides services, support, or products to an NDIS participant. Unregistered providers must follow the NDIS and NDIS Commission legislation, standards, price guide, and guidelines; however, you are not fully registered with the NDIS Commission by an external auditor approved by the NDIS Commission.

  • An Independent Support Worker, Sole Trader, or Unregistered Provider are the same and can offer the same services, support, or products.
  • Self‑managed participants and plan‑managed participants only can use unregistered providers.
  • Some supports or registration groups can be offered but high‑risk or regulated services cant be like restrictive practice or the likelihood of.
  • Unlimited participant and employees
  • Bound by the legislation and rules particularly hr, code of conduct, complaints, incident management, risks, whs
  • Must hold appropriate insurances (e.g., public liability, professional indemnity) and meet ordinary business/legal obligations.
  • Your traditional and non-traditional marketing and advertising strategies is key to attracting participants. There is no magical list of participants. You will not get referrals from NDIS, NDIS Planners, or LACs.

Becoming Confident, Comfortable and Capable

Developing the experience and judgement needed to understand and complete start-up or growth effectively takes time, ongoing learning and practical experience. This journey is about being "kind to yourself". Understand that the longer you work in our industry, you will build a valuable data-base of knowledge. This not until then that you will start to feel confident, comfortable and capable in what you know, how you handle things, hold conversations and know what you are doing everyday. This is where seeking a mentor and using available resources to significantly reduce time, anxiety, stress and confusion, greatly benefits you and your service.

Understanding the Rules that Apply

Identify the laws, NDIS requirements, registration conditions, standards, pricing rules and other obligations relevant to your service. Requirements can differ depending on the supports you deliver and whether you are registered. Rules that apply under the NDIS , NDIS Commission Fair work, Safe work, Privacy Act and more. We can support you to understand and more importantly implement legislation in your service to maintain your compliance.

Creating Practical Policies, Procedures and Practices

Documents are only useful when they are compliant, implemented, reviewed, understood, followed and you can show evidence of doing so. Use our templates and resources or let us help you built documents that reflect how your service actually works. These may include procedures for:

  • Participant intake, consent and service agreements;
  • Support planning and delivery;
  • Worker recruitment, screening, induction and supervision;
  • Privacy, information security and records management;
  • Complaints, incidents and reportable incidents;
  • Risk management and emergency response;
  • Medication, mealtime or behaviour support, where relevant; and
  • Billing, claiming and financial controls.
  • and more

Improve, adapt and grow responsibly

Learn how to use feedback, audit findings, incidents, complaints, participant outcomes and workforce input to decide what needs to changed, grown or improved. Expansion should follow capacity—not replace it and based on the Plan → Conduct → Complete principle.
