Timeline of Upcoming NDIS & Industry Changes. What You Need To Know?

FAIR WORK AUSTRALIA 

  • The Fair Work Commission’s Annual Wage Review 2026 increases modern award minimum wage rates by 4.75%. The change takes effect from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2026 (so employers must apply the new rates from that pay period).

 

SAFE WORK AUSTRALIA 

  • From 1 July 2026, a number of updated Codes of Practice will become legally binding (compliance with a code or an equivalent or higher standard will be required under the model WHS changes) by Safe Work Australia.

 

AUSTRALIAN TAXATION OFFICE 

  • PAYG withholding / tax tables: ATO tax tables and withholding schedules are updated for the 2026–27 year — employers should update payroll software and check ATO tax tables from 1 July 2026. 
  • Superannuation (employer obligations): Payday Super — employers must pay Super Guarantee on payday (i.e., at the same time as salary and wages) from 1 July 2026; employers need to update payroll processes, reporting and payment timing. 
  • Super caps & transfer balance: contribution caps and the general transfer balance cap increase as legislated from 1 July 2026 (affects concessional/non‑concessional caps and SMSF limits). 

 

NDIS & NDIS COMMISSION 

  • Consultation on commissioning home and living supports will begin in 1 July 2026 
  • Uplift to NDIS claims and payments systems will begin from 1 July 2026 
  •  Participant supports budgets for social, civic and community participation supports and capacity building daily activities will be progressively adjusted from 1 October 2026. 
  •  Tighter assessment of reasonable and necessary supports for new entrants, plan reassessment for existing participants and plan renewal changes will be progressively implemented from 1 February 2027. 
  • Participants will start to transition to new framework planning from 1 April 2027. 
  • Expansion of provider registration will commence from 1July 2027  
  • The new plan management approach will be implemented from 1 October 2027, beginning with a 6-month transition period.   
  • Changes to the boundaries between the NDIS and mainstream systems will apply to prospective participants from 1 January 2028, with current participants reassessed over a transition period. 
  • The newly commissioned support coordination function will begin from 1 July 2028.
