New Provider Registration
NEW REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS FOR PLATFORM PROVIDERS
Bill Shorten has announced that all platform providers, support coordinators and Supported Independent Living (SIL) providers to be registered.
This is the first step towards a new registration system for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). This will allow Ndis to have visibility of the NDIS provider market delivering support and services. Most importantly, it will improve the safety and quality of services for participants, while maintaining choice and control.
The new registration model will be a human rights focused risk-proportionate model, as recommended by the NDIS Provider and Worker Registration Taskforce and called for in the Independent NDIS Review.
Two of our key aims for providers is to reduce the cost of registration and red tape.
What happens next?
Providers won’t have to be registered today.
Firstly, we’ll be consulting with the disability community, NDIS providers and states and territories, on:
- the registration approach and NDIS Practice Standards for SIL providers
- the registration approach for participants who self-direct their own supports
- the definition of ‘NDIS Provider’ to enable a risk proportionate registration model
Consultation is underway on the approach and NDIS Practice Standards for SIL providers.
Consultation on the design elements of a new regulatory model will start in October, via the Department of Social Services’ DSS Engage website.
